The 3 Subtypes of Burnout You Don’t Know but Need to Know.
Montero-Marín proposes that there are 3 different clinical manifestations of burnout.
1) Frenetic: in my own words with less clinical speak, I would describe as the workaholics. They tend to be overinvolved and ambitious in the job.
2) Underchallenged: really self explanatory, but bored or lack interest and enthusiasm in the job.
3) Wornout: lack of control over the results of the job as well as lack of recognition.
Theoretically, if we can identify more specific types of burnout we can better devise a plan to intervene/prevent burnout. For frenetic types, it could be particularly helpful to manage unrealistic expectations within private practice whether. Underchallenged folks might find it helpful to focus on new opportunities for growth like changing niches or client types, or learning new modalities. People with the wornout variety of burnout may benefit from creating systems that allow them to feel accomplished and valued like having a mastermind group who can celebrate the wins.
